The campaign to create a license plate for the Sierra Nevada, and to help fund programs of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, began in 2005 with the introduction of legislation to create the conservancy.
Establishing a Sierra license plate is crucial to protecting and restoring the Region. Proceeds from the sales and renewal of Sierra Nevada Conservancy License Plates will directly fund the conservancy’s efforts to protect and restore the 25 million acres of landscapes in the Sierra, which includes its rivers and creeks, lakes and ponds, meadows and forests, farms and ranches, and rural towns and villages. Additionally, the proceeds will ensure an ongoing fund source for the conservancy.
The Sierra License plate will cost $50 to purchase and $40 a year to renew for a sequentially numbered plate (a random set of six numbers and letters selected by the DMV). For new personalized plates or conversion of current personalized plates to the Sierra plate, the cost is $98 to purchase and $70 a year to renew.
