A group supporting former Colfax High wrestling coach Jerry Sinkey will have a chance to voice its opinion at next Tuesday’s Placer Union High School District’s school board meeting. According to Bill Petersen, a booster with the Green Machine freestyle wrestling program, a group consisting of parents, athletes and community backers will offer support for Sinkey who after the close of the past season was not retained in his head wrestling coaching position by the Colfax High administration. Anne Evans, of the PUHSD staff, confirmed that the wrestling group was put on the agenda and will get the floor at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. According to Petersen, the Sinkey support group will also address other topics including the district’s employment policies pertaining to off campus coaches and participation fees for student-athletes. However, the main topic in the wrestling group’s forum will be support of Sinkey. “We have a man who has poured his heart and soul into thirty years of coaching wrestling,” said Petersen. “We have a lot of people that want to do what we can to keep Jerry at Colfax.” In an ironic twist to Tuesday’s meeting, which will be held at the PUHSD office off New Airport Rd. in Auburn, one of the personnel issues on the agenda is board approval for Trevor Hoke, who has been offered the wrestling coaching position at Colfax High.
