Smith's Tie For 2nd Earns U.S. Amateur Berth

Colby Smith's three-under-par score of 141 at Yocha-De-He Golf Club located near Cache Creek has qualified the UNLV golfer for the U.s. Amateur Golf Championship slated for Aug. 24-30 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Smith, a 2008 Colfax High graduate who just completed his freshman season at UNLV, shot a three-under par score of 141 (71-70) to finish in a tie for second place with Art Golden of Chico. The qualifying tournament winner was Kevin Lucas of Folsom who finished with a seven under score of 137. The top three finishers advanced to Southern Hills. Another Colfax High graduate, Patrick Bauer, nw competing for Sonoma State, meanwhile, shot a pair of 72s to finish at even par. Bauer is the 2nd alternate from the Yocha-De-He qualifying site.
