Do the state legislators – assembly(men) and senators – know that one of their primary duties is to balance the budget? Most spend money the state does not have, raising salaries, per diem, car allowances, etc. etc. and this can be curtailed or eliminated. Allowances should be eliminated. A clean broom can be used to eliminate unnecessary spending. The governor alone cannot balance the budget or cut unnecessary expenses. JAMES R. HOUSEL, Foresthill
