Stufflebean's clutch homer beats Colfax

Junior Brooke Stufflebean completed the comeback for the Placer High softball team when she belted a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Hillgals over Colfax, 6-5.
The Falcons bolted out to an early lead on solo home runs by Ashley Scott and RAndi Anderson. Colfax led 5-1 before Placer began chipping away. Haley Tupen’s double in the firth inning scored Abby Kendall and Stufflebean. Tupen then saved a run in the bottom of the fifth when she threw out a runner at home after a single by Jordan Gerlach.
Kaelin Amrein threw 4 1/3 innings in relief to get the win for the Hillgals, who improved to 4-2 in the Pioneer Valley League. She struck out five and gave up two hits.
Taylor Hill and Kendall had two hits apiece for Placer. Claire Hansen had three hits and Kassidy Kosmata knocked in one run.
Anderson was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs an she pitched seven innings for Colfax (0-5 PVL).
Bear River 19, Foothill 0 at Lake of the Pines — The Bruins coasted to 6-0 in the PVL with a five-inning romp at home.
Maddie Phelps pitched the shutout and knocked in three runs. Stephanie Ceo had three hits and five RBIs. Jenny Astwood added two RBIs. Mackenzie Hollister, Ashleigh Higginbotham and Kaleigh Casey had three hits apiece.
