A teen bicyclist on a ride in Downtown Auburn with his father on Tuesday was injured after hitting the open door of a parked car. The 17-year-old male was taken by ambulance to hospital after complaining of shoulder pain. Investigators were attempting to determine the cause after hearing conflicting statements at the scene, said Auburn Police Capt. Jim Weldon. The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. in the 1000-block of High Street. What is known is that a car door was open and the bike hit it, Weldon said. The driver said the door was opened only a small amount before the bike came in contact with it. The father of the injured cyclist said it was open all the way, the police captain said. The bike was westbound and traveling at about 10 to 15 mph, Weldon said. The teen cyclist was wearing a helmet. — Gus Thomson
