On Aug. 17, the Auburn Journal reported 2010 STAR test results for several area schools. Unfortunately, test results for Sierra Hills School (SHS) and Weimar Hills School (WHS) were not included in the article. Results posted at show that across the board, a greater percentage of SHS and WHS students scored proficient or advanced than their counterparts attending Auburn Union School District schools or Colfax Elementary. SHS and WHS are part of the Placer Hills Union School District (PHUSD) and are located in park-like settings close to I-80 in Meadow Vista and Weimar, respectively. WHS and SHS each include a charter component which allows for enrollment of students residing outside of PHUSD boundaries. Due in part to generous support from the Placer Hills Education Foundation and PTC, SHS students benefit from small group instruction, music, PE, library programs and a fully equipped computer lab. WHS offers outstanding performing and visual arts programs and infuses technology across the curriculum. The emergence of charter schools allows area families choices, so I encourage parents to explore all of the available options. Linda Cramer, Meadow Vista
