There are just too many zeros in trillions of dollars for anyone to understand so let’s simplify the numbers. The debt is over $14,000,000,000,000 trillions. Let’s make it look like a number we can relate to, say it’s $14,000. The government takes in each month over $175,000,000,000 ... billions. Let’s say its $175. The government spent last month $233 billion. Let’s say it is $233. Now let’s write a letter to the bank to get a higher limit on our credit card. Dear Wells Fargo: I need you to raise my credit card limit. If you do not raise the limit I will not be able to pay my bills. I made $175 last month but spent $233 ... sorry. I know the card limit is $14,000 and I now owe that amount but if you do not raise it to $16,400 I will not be able to make the $30 payment to you and pay for all my friends’ needs and wants. See, I pay the neighborhood’s medical, housing and food bills … sorry. This is your last chance to give me more money. If you do not give me more money the old people will die, seas will rise and the neighbors will starve … sorry. Best regards, Ya think you will get your card limit raised? John T. Nightingale, Auburn
