Third time the charm for Ross, Bruins

LAKE OF THE PINES — Junior Chris Ross came off the bench in the fourth quarter to sink two clutch 3-pointers Friday night, the difference in Bear River’s 50-45 win over visiting Colfax. The Bruins led 25-18 at halftime and 33-30 entering the final quarter. Colfax (12-9, 3-4 Pioneer Valley League) used a 7-0 run to take a 37-33 lead before Ross’ crucial baskets and a pair of layups by Johnny Jewett, who finished with 10 points. Patrick Scott scored 18 to lead Bear River (16-6, 6-1 PVL), which beat the Falcons for the first time in three tries this season. Colfax beat the Bruins 57-49 at Placer’s Kendall Arnett Tournament on Dec. 30 and edged the Bruins again 58-54 in Colfax on Jan. 6. Forest Lake Christian 60, Foresthill 47 at Lake of the Pines — Nine players scored as the Falcons improved to 14-4 overall and 6-1 in the Central Valley Christian League. Josh Ritchart led the Falcons with 15 points. The Wildfires fell to 9-10 overall and 3-4 in league.
