US veterans, VA earn praise

It is not commonly known that the Veteran’s Administration operates the nation’s greatest integrated health system. More than 1,400 sites of care, hospitals, community living centers, domiciliaries, readjustment counseling centers and various other facilities are operated by the Veteran’s Administration. There is a clinic in Auburn with a psychiatrist, a psychologist and a general practitioner doctor along with two nurses, two receptionists and others to ensure that all operations run smoothly. Frank Buckles, the last survivor of World War I, has died. He was 110 years old. While working as a civilian in Manila, Philippine Islands, he was captured by the invading Japanese and held prisoner for 38 months. He was an ambulance driver during World War I and was awarded the “Legion of Honor.” Frank Buckles, the veterans of all wars salute you. GENE BAKER, Meadow Vista
