Vets deserve better benefits

After reading Tom McClintock’s press secretary’s explanation of why Tom did not support extension of unemployment benefits (Reader Input, Aug. 18), I understand why I’ve received zero answers to my three e-mails to his office. My question was a simple one. Does he feel that 100 percent service-disabled vets are adequately compensated? I can only assume that he feels those who have made the next-to-ultimate sacrifice for their country should be pleased to be kept slightly above the poverty level. Taking decent care of our vets would be be just too expensive and be bad for small business. As the owner of a small business, my hat’s off to you, Tom. Dick Brooks, Auburn
