Weimar Hills Wins TOC Opener, 49-36

Warriors improve to 26-5 with first round win

CRESCENT CITY - Weimar Hills' 8th grade boys basketball team used used a steady offense and strong defense and rebounding to open the 41st annual Crescent City Jaycees Tournament of Champions on a winning note Friday afternoon. Pced by Will Buell's 15 points, 14 from Matt Larson and 13 points and 21 rebounds from Ryan Glazner, the Warriors led from start to finish in subduing McKinleyville of Humboldt County, 49-36. The win moves Weimar Hills into Saturday morning's semi-final round of the AA division. Weimar Hills, now 26-5 on the season, will meet Robert Louis Stevenson of St. Helena. Stevenson defeated Redding Christian, 50-43, in its first round game. Weimar Hills, playing without starting point guard Taylor Dorsey who did not make the trip because of illness, picked up the slack on both ends of the court and led 11-8 after one quarter and extending it to 24-14 at halftime. However, in the third quarter, the Warriors took control of the game has six points from Buell and four from Larson keyed a surge that moved the Warriors to their biggest lead of the night at 35-17. Weimar Hills' scoring was rounded out by Austin Mulderrig, Wade Lewis and Tim Stuck with two points each and Devon Loomis with one. The Crescent City TOC is a 56-team tournament with seven divisions divided by enrollment.
