Auburn’s Bethlehem Lutheran Church celebrated St. Francis and the relationship we have with our animals Sunday, Sept. 30 with their annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony.
Bethlehem’s Pastor Ron Valadez was joined by Father Brian Rebholtz and Mother Jana Branson of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. They presented a short service highlighting how much the animals in our life mean to us and the unconditional love they provide.
About 20 dogs and several cats were brought to the church by their owners for the ceremony. They were blessed by the three pastors who circulated to meet the animals.
Also attending this year for the blessing of their service animals were the Placer County Sheriff Mounted Unit and the Placer County Sheriff K-9 unit.
An altar table was set up with photos brought by owners remembering their pets that were loved and passed away and a blessing was also offered for them. Treats for both animals and humans were served after the short ceremony.
