Tevis Cup 2012

Hannah Pruss of Piedmont South Dakota was the first rider out of the Robinson Flat checkpoint Saturday morning. Pruss was in eighth place at press time Saturday evening. This was Pruss' third Tevis Cup Ride.

Lisa Ford of Durango CO left Foresthill after a one hour hold and vet check in third place Saturday afternoon. Ford was only two minutes behind Garrett Ford and Heather Reynolds. Ford finished the ride second to her husband Garrett Ford.

Auburn's Hal Hall started riding the Tevis in 1969 as a junior rider. Hall has three first place Tevis Cup finishes and has also been awarded the Haggin Cup three times throughout his 28 Tevis finishes.

The 57th annual Tevis Cup Ride started 209 riders early Saturday morning in Robie Park outside of Truckee. One hundred miles later these same riders will try to cross the finish line in Auburn's Gold Country Fairgrounds McCann Stadium. The race that began in 1955 as Wendell Robie proved the trail could be conquered in the modern era. The ride is now a historic endurance test and a remarkable accomplishment for horse and rider. Hundreds of volunteers assist the riders in their quest along the trail. This years Tevis Cup was won by Garrett Ford.
